This is the Panasonic Lumix G7, the camera that has stood the test of time in 2024. Honestly, the very best camera that you can start creating content with right now. This camera right here is a micro 4/3 4K camera. It was originally launched by Lumix in 2015 at the sticker price of 800 to $1000. You can actually find these on the used camera store/market anywhere from 200 to $300. Many of you are probably wondering why the Lumix G7.

1. Why LUMIX G7 Such a Good Camera, and has been a good camera?
1. Specifications of LUMIX G7
For those, you’re going to need to understand the specifications of this camera and why it’s still relevant today. Again, LUMIX G7 is a 4K Micro 4/3 camera. It can shoot anywhere from 24 to 30 frames per second with very minimal cropping in the video. This hdcam also has the ability to shoot 60 frames per second. Since this is a micro 4/3 camera, it utilizes the micro 4/3 mount.
2. LUMIX G7’s Lenses
What this means is that you can actually get your hands on a variety of different lenses from different manufacturers, to even lenses that don’t necessarily fit directly onto this camera. But acquiring a special adapter, you can use it seamlessly. This is actually the camera that I use to create all of my content. This is the stock kit lens that actually came with this.
3. Video Quality & Recording
This is the 14 to 140 by Lumix. And I actually consistently either use my Canon Nifty 50 millimeter. And now utilizing this adapter with this camera. This lens gives it a different field of view, as well as a different look that I might be looking for, especially looking to shoot at a 50 millimeter. Even though this camera came out in 2015, you can actually use it right now to live stream. You can simply do so by getting an HDMI to USB capture card and an HDMI cable, and plugging this thing into your computer. And you can start live streaming onto Twitch on YouTube, Rumble or whatever the case is.
Another really neat thing about the Panasonic Lumix G7 is that you can actually get an unlimited recording time with this camera, as long as you follow this simple hack. If you don’t already know, most entry level cameras in this price range unfortunately have from the factory a 29 minute and 59 second recording limit.
This is unfortunately due to the fact that camera manufacturers put these limits on these cameras, either to follow certain tax laws in different countries, or in order for you to consider other makes or models that don’t have that recording limit. And now, for those of you that are wondering what kind of images or video that this camera can actually produce, comparing it to today’s modern smartphone, honestly, most of you will not be able to tell the difference.

2. What matters the most is lighting?
You can honestly use pretty much any camera, whether it’s your phone or your smartphone, and you’re pretty much good to go. And you’re ready to start creating content. Right now. With camera systems getting more and more complex every year, it’s bound to happen that they have to start obviously implementing some sort of way to cool it down and the G7.
1. Bettery Life
If you’ve noticed, doesn’t have any sort of vent holes for a fan or anything like that. And the fact is that this camera does not overheat. I’ve had the ability to use this camera for very long live streams, as well as recording into my computer via HDMI and no overheating at all. For example, I’m currently using a Sony A6300 to shoot this and 4K at 24 frames per second. And in the hour of me filming, it overheated once already, and obviously the battery died. I had to replace it and it quickly picked up right again, right from there. But this is one of those things that if you want to record in very high fidelity, high quality.
You want to get the very best of the best. You’re just gonna have to deal with the fact that there are some camera systems that do end up overheating. But the Lumix G7, it does not. One of the biggest reasons for you to consider this camera for your content creation right now is the fact that you can pick this up for a really low price on the used market. There’s no reason for you to start shopping around for a brand new camera that you may not even know how to use when you get something like this, like the Lumix G7, that has a very simple layout on the menus, as well as the ability for you to obviously just start recording or start shooting photos and just really get a hands on experience with shooting a mirrorless camera.
2. Pros and Cons of Panasonic Lumix G7
Now those are all of the pros that I mentioned for this camera. And sure, there are some cons that you should consider when buying this camera system. And let’s start off with the first the autofocus. If you’re unfamiliar with Panasonic cameras, they’re not known for having the very best auto focusing features. However, there are some rumors out there that apparently Panasonic is looking to finally release a new camera with a newer auto focusing system that apparently is supposed to be better than whatever’s out on the market right now.

So if you are looking to get the very best of the best, I’d highly recommend you look at the other options that are currently available in the market, or possibly what Panasonic is going to be releasing later this year. One of the other cons of this camera is that it lacks either a very flat color profile, or obviously the ability to shoot in some sort of raw recording.
This camera came out in 2015, and at the time, obviously there wasn’t really many cameras systems out there that shot in either raw or maybe even possibly offered some sort of vlog or log recording. This camera, however, doesn’t offer Panasonic’s V-log recording. It does, however, have decided color profile that is one of the flattest color profiles that you can shoot in on this camera.
3. Can you shoot Cinematic Videos with Panasonic Lumix G7?
So if you do want to shoot something cinematic and you have the ability to push a little bit of the colors here and there in the post-production process. I’m not a big fan of shooting in Raw unless I really have to. It’s just a bunch of extra data that you need to store on your computer. Unless you need to create something very cinematic or you’re looking to push the colors in a very interesting way. I highly recommend just shooting in the standard video profiles. Especially, if you’re looking to create content like this, where it’s just talking head informational content.
And one of the other things that this camera lacks is the ability for you to shoot in ten bit color. Today’s modern video displays have the ability to actually display over eight bit color, and obviously the Lumix G7. And being a camera system that came out in 2015, eight bit was probably the standard at the time. And for the most part it’s still passable today. But I know a lot of people out there say that there is no reason for anyone to be creating any sort of camera system that does not at least shoot in ten bit.

4. Shooting Capability of Lumix G7
If you look at today’s camera market and camera industry, more and more manufacturers are staying away from either shooting in eight bit or shooting in either ten, 12 or even up to 16 bit. Obviously, if you’re looking to get some really expensive camera system. As for you, the content creator, you really won’t be able to tell a difference between eight and ten bit. Unless you’re really wanting to push the colors in post. For most of you out there, eight bit is completely fine.
If not, most modern day smartphones still only shoot an eight bit color. Anything higher than eight requires a lot more data to be processed and stored in the video file. Whether it’s a raw or log recording and it’s just unneeded. Which is why I love to talk about it and just bring up the fact that it really has stood the test of time, at least for me. I know a lot of you out there sooner or later, even including myself, will love to upgrade to something better that can produce better images or whatever the case is. But for now, if you’re looking to start creating content, honestly, the Lumix G7 is for you.
